The Monroe County Community School Corporation will continue online learning into the fall in an effort to keep students and teachers safe during the pandemic. In order to combat the challenges of remote learning faced by some students, the Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools (FMCCS) is asking the community to consider participating in their Sponsor A Student program.
“If you are able to make a gift at this time, please know it will be used wisely to help ensure connectivity and resources while we are online and to make our buildings as safe as possible when our students return,” the organization said in a press release.
The funds will go to support personal protective equipment (PPE), technology, and other materials to help aid the transition for students and teachers.
The FMCCS website allows donation amounts from $50–$5,000 and provides examples of what the funds will be used for. For a gift of $50, donors can sponsor a single student by providing them with a Basic School Supply box, which includes markers, crayons, art pencils, No. 2 pencils, a pencil sharpener, a notebook, an eraser, scissors, a glue stick, liquid glue, and a fine point Sharpie. A donation of $125 supports at-home thermometers for 10 families. Donating $500 provides WiFi for a family in need for the duration of the school year.
Currently, FMCCS has received more than $4,500 in community gifts.
