Tandem Community Birth Center and Postpartum House has secured a physical location at 2613 E. 3rd St. The nonprofit organization will now go to work renovating the space into a birth center.

Indiana has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the United States, a statistic that Tandem hopes to combat by providing midwifery and birth services, routine productive care, and postpartum support.

The birth center will be an alternative to hospital or home births and will collaborate closely with doctors’ offices and hospitals for a holistic approach to pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period,

Tandem is currently looking for volunteer contractors who are interested in helping transform the new facilities. For more information, visit tandembloomington.org.
